うずくり Traditional Uzukuri wood texture (raised grain finish)

うずくり、うづくり、浮造り

竹や細い木の茎を束ねて作られた研磨用品です。プロの製作者にも愛用されており、磨耗してきたら糸を引いて新しい面を出し、繰り返し使用できます。

「浮造り（うづくり）」とは、竹や木の表面をこすり、硬い部分の繊維を浮き上がらせることで美しい木目を際立たせる技法です。本品を用いることで自然な風合いと深みのある仕上がりを得られます。

漆汚れの除去にも適しており、丁寧に磨き上げることで驚くほどの光沢を引き出すことができます。

Uzukuri (浮造り, Raised Grain Technique)

This is a type of sasara traditional tool made by bundling plant stems such as bamboo or thin wood. It is a preferred polishing tool among professional craftsmen.

When the bundle wears down, you simply pull the thread tight to continue using it. By repeatedly rubbing the bamboo surface with the uzukuri, the harder fibers are raised, creating a beautifully enhanced texture. This traditional technique is known as “Uzukuri” (raised grain finish).

It is also excellent for removing lacquer stains. With time and careful polishing, it brings out an exceptional luster that transforms the surface.
