掘出し物 孝弘 面取追入組鑿 赤樫柄 13本組 Old Stock Takahiro Bench chisels set
This is a 13-piece chisel set made in Tokyo, bearing the signature “Takahiro” by Takahiro Maruyama.
Takahiro was the last disciple of Kiyohiro, the founder of the Edo cutlery smithing tradition.
The “Kiyohiro” lineage continued for several generations before becoming a specialized cutlery smithy in the Meiji era.
The first-generation Maruyama, “Takahiro,” was the last disciple of the ‘Kiyohiro’ lineage. He specialized in forging “kuse-mono” (curved) tools among carpentry blades. The business continued through the second generation in Urawa, Saitama Prefecture, but closed in the 1970s.
This chisel set is over half a century old, and I believe a piece in such excellent condition as this will never appear on the market again.
